2013

Wow!
What a year!
2013 has been full of ups and downs, mostly ups.
And this is because I have chosen to focus on the blessings in the curse.

Today I am going to post 10 negative things about Chron's Disease and 10 blessings that are a direct result from these challenges.  I realize that many of my blessings come from my trials.

  1. My stomach often has pain nearly every day.  I don't know how to describe it, and many people are  often clueless as to the pain I sometimes feel, especially to someone without IBD.  Blessing- I have a high pain tolerance and am able to get by with only tylenol on occasion.
  2. Food is now inconvenient, because I have to cook everything. Blessing- My wonderful Mom always researches new recipes, remedies, and is always willing to help.
  3. Chron's Disease effects my entire body, aches, pains, when I'm not feeling well I get moody.  Blessing- I have a loving family, bishop, and Heavenly Father to turn to.
  4. I frequently use the bathroom. Blessing- most of my horrendous symptoms are in remission, and thanks to modern day plumbing I have many nice bathrooms to use :)
  5. I am often hungry, not knowing what to snack on.  Blessing- I am not starving, truly, I do have a pantry full of food and parents who provide for me.
  6. I get frequent blood draws to monitor my liver because of the strong medication I'm taking.  Blessing- My body is metabolizing the medicine well and I have a goal to switch medicine this summer because I am doing so well.
  7. I am often tired. Blessing- My cross country 5K race time has improved by 15 minutes this year!!!  And I received a varsity letter and the most improved award!! Blessing- I have grown close to so many wonderful people who have helped me to achieve this.

  8. I have to take way too many vitamins, and often forget how many I've taken.  Blessing- they really seem to help.
  9. I am often jealous of others with IBS, celiacs, or other similar conditions because these people often seem to improve much faster than me.  Blessing- I am strong enough to handle this trial!
  10. My ulcers hurt my body, especially when I have to use the bathroom.  Blessing- They are no way near as bad as before.

Honestly, it was hard to think of 10 specific negatives.  When in an upset moment I could go on and on, but truthfully I have very much to be thankful for.
Happy New Year Everyone!
