Telling people that I have Crohn's Disease gives me all kinds of reactions.
Stares.
Questions. (That I usually am embarrassed to answer) (They would be embarrassed they asked if they knew what the response would be)
Changing the subject.
Gifts.
Food that I may or may not be able to eat.
Grossed out.
Poeple cheering me up.
People making me laugh. (Thanks to Val, my best friend!)
And A few really kind people who have stood out to me.
Here are some examples of kind acts that have stood out to me.
- Not eating when I'm around
- Offering me gluten free food
- True sympathy
- True understanding
- Relate ability
- A listening ear
- Compliments
- Encouragement
This is Hard!!
Last year after missing so much school my wonderful seminary class made this poster for me.
It's the thought that counts.
Haha! They offered to make me some cookies to cheer me up. I told them, thanks but no thanks. Little did they know.
Today someone asked me what I wrote about in my BYU essay question that asked what the hardest thing I have ever done was. I told him briefly about this. He just stared with his mouth wide open.
Awkward!
Then he simply said, Oh, I wrote about my hike to Angels Landing.
I am grateful that I have experienced hard things this early on in my life because it will prepare me for what's yet to come.
Now, I know that there are many more difficult things in life besides Crohn's. But Heavenly Father knows that this condition is exactly what I need. And for me it is so difficult. Yet so easy with his loving help. For those of you with other struggles. Keep smiling, find hope.
