In the Book of Mormon faith is mentioned as a
recurring theme. Faith is a wonderful gift from God that can be utilized
by all of God's children. Faith brings us closer to God and that helps
each and every one of us. Faith can also become a personal tool to use to
overcome ANY trial and to power through anything. With faith, the
impossible becomes possible.
Alma 32:21 states "And now as I said
concerning faith-faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore
if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true."
Personally, this scripture provides an
incomprehensible amount of faith to me as I deal with my own trials; Crohn's
Disease specifically. I have faith that I will be healed, or at least
able to function well with very little complications. So far in my life
this has proven to be true. And when I do get sick or other trials come
my way, I rely on faith and hope in my Savior Jesus Christ. To me this is
my anchor that gets me through anything.
A principle that is taught in Alma 32:21 is that faith is to hope for
things that are not seen which are true. As a little kid I was given the
example of a rising sun as a metaphor for faith. Although you do not see
the sun at night you know that it will shine again the next morning. Similarly, just because you cannot see
something is not reason enough to not believe.
If you have faith, you hope for the things that are true, even if they
cannot be seen--especially if they cannot be seen. The phrase “seeing is believing” is not true
according to the principles of faith.
Alma 32:21 applies to everyone on a broad level and on a personal level
as well. Faith can help us all to
overcome ANY trial and any obstacle.
Faith can personally help each of us because each of our trials are
unique to us. Verse 21 beautifully
describes faith and so does the rest of Alma chapter 32. In summary, faith can serve as the anchor to
provide lasting hope that will provide relief in any and all of life’s
circumstances.
